Our reactors run online, independent control systems to keep your cells growing at the specified setpoints. Each reactor has a dedicated computing module which executes the control based on data from our sensors and commands from our staff. The control systems communicate with our cloud servers, but they are not affected by internet outages -- operations will continue as normal if there is a networking issue in our facility.
We have independent control programs for tracking temperature, pH, oxygen, feeding and PSAs. Our controllers can run in a variety of modes, each with parameters that are adjusted automatically or manually as-needed.
Temperature control: PID, model-based
pH: PID
Oxygen: cascade, constant aeration, constant mixing, enriched with totalization
Feeding and PSAs: open-loop, scale-feedback, triggered, DO-stat, pH-stat
These controllers are programmed and configured by our team of software engineers and biologists. We are able to translate your experimental flows and custom logic into our software.
Our control systems are heavily tested via a suite of automated software checks and via internal runs that we conduct with E. coli, yeast and CHO to "test drive" changes to the programs. Our team also validates control strategies in a computer-simulation system developed here at Culture.
